March 8th is the favorite holiday for all Russian women and girls. A day declared to be a day off and a non-working day.
What it means for Russian women
This spring day means a lot for Russian women. On March 8th all women and girls expect to be recognized for their femininity. They acknowledge congratulations, wishes of love, happiness and presents. If you wish to show your appreciation, then you can write a loving message or choose any present on our website and send it to the woman you care for.
History of the celebratory date
Initially, namely in 1910 during the meeting of Socialist Women, Clara Zetkin proposed the celebratory date (March 8th), as a celebration of the one side of humanity who struggles for equality. Today, March 8th no longer represents the recognition of equality but instead symbolizes springtime, women's beauty, tenderness, spiritual wisdom, and awareness of women.
The idea of a celebration
When the industrialized world experienced a period of expansion and turbulence, it was at this time in the early 20th century the idea of an International Women's Day celebration first arose. Although there is a perception that on March 8,1857, the first march in the history of textile industry workers held in New York was one of the prerequisites for the celebration of International Women's Day. Women working in the plant came to the streets and began to demand a reduction in working hours per day from 14 to 10, and for the improvement of working conditions.
The official status
The official status of the holiday “The International Women's Day” was acquired by the decision of the United Nations in 1975. Since then Russian women have achieved many things. From housewives, governesses and young ladies, they became deputies, politicians, scientists, businesswomen, directors, and beloved women. They run the nation equally with men. In their honor, poems have been composed. Also by George Gordon Byron, an English romantic poet and writer, has written:
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
A day of international solidarity of working women
The International Women’s day is considered a day of international solidarity of working women who fight for their rights. Alexandra Kollontai, the author of the first book of the International Women's Day, wrote about this event.
Nowadays March 8th is a holiday of spring and sunlight, a tribute to the traditional role of women as a wife, mother, and girlfriend.
